Individual Counselling Sydney

WHY DO PEOPLE SEEK COUNSELLING?

At some point, most people who live generally fulfilling and satisfying lives encounter emotional and physical crises, face high levels of stress and emotional distress, and may need to seek help related to relationship problems. The time we spend raising our kids is filled with these transitional times, where challenges may arise that individual counselling can help address. These challenges aren’t limited to adjusting to newborns, either: they’re just as common growing and established families trying to juggle work, life and relationships.

Some people find it easier than others to adapt to unfamiliar changes and challenges and are better able to work through their emotional problems on their own, or by talking with a family member, their partner or a friend. For others however, it is easier to seek professional support to help guide them through uncharted waters.

People usually come to see me at individual counselling Sydney when they are emotionally troubled and are unable to solve their problems and resolve their distress without outside help. For some this is after trying to resolve their differences on their own. But for many they simply don’t have anyone to talk to about personal issues and prefer to work through their personal matters with a counselor who is neutral and thus not risk straining a relationship or friendship by disclosing intimate personal information to someone who knows them well.

The most important factor in any individual counselling is the relationship between the client and the therapist. This is paramount. It’s about working together, collaboratively, to enable the client to face, overcome and work through their challenges so that they can get the most out of their life. This is why the first session I have with every new client is an assessment session which helps all parties establish greater understanding, appreciation and trust in one another and the process.

My clients come to individual counselling Sydney and talk to me about their concerns and issues in strict confidence. I am known as someone who is warm, supportive and understanding. My clients feel listened to, heard, validated, acknowledged and leave with a sense of empowerment, learn some new skills, find solutions and ultimately feel much better!

So please contact me if you need individual counselling so I can support you on your journey to a better life. Let’s talk before it breaks!

Individual Counselling FAQ

Developing coping skills: People with mental health illnesses frequently battle with their symptoms, and this results in the emergence of negative behaviours. Patients can learn to manage these symptoms and, subsequently, behaviours and develop abilities linked to respect, self-assurance, and empathy through individual treatment.

Professional counsellors work to increase self-esteem, encourage behaviour change, and maintain optimal mental health. They also assist clients in identifying objectives and potential solutions to issues that cause emotional distress.

There are six personal qualities that are essential for effective counsellors and should be consistently worked upon. These include trust, flexibility, optimism and hope, sensibility to diversity, self-awareness and interpersonal capabilities.

There are five major stages that exist today. These are:

  1. Initial revelation
  2. In-depth exploration
  3. A dedication to action
  4. Counselling intervention
  5. Assessment, dismissal, or referral.

Individual counselling’s dual objectives are to assist clients in resolving their current issues and to provide them with the tools they need to handle emerging issues. It must be personalised for each client since it deals with their own issues and expectations.

According to research, individual counselling may help people have fewer relapses of common disorders, including mild depression and anxiety. Additionally, it suggests that effective therapy has benefits that transcend beyond just the treatment phase.

One person receiving therapy from one psychologist, counsellor, therapist, or psychiatrist is referred to as receiving individual therapy. On the other hand, group therapy is broadly defined as the treatment of many individuals concurrently in a structured therapeutic setting.

You have the chance to discover more about yourself and get a better knowledge of your personality, values, and views by speaking with an individual counsellor. As awareness is the first step towards transformation, it enables you to gain more self-awareness and understanding of your own contribution to whatever difficulties you may be experiencing.
